Hello 2015!

Happy New Year! I love a new year, a clean slate, a fresh start. This year is no different for me, even though as I get older, I know that there will be sorrows mixed with the joys as this year unfolds. There are many unknowns as I look into this new year, but I was very comforted this morning in my quiet time with the Lord as I remembered that God is in control and Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8)!

One of my favorite things to do at the end of the year is to watch "year in review" footage on the news. Yesterday, since I had the day off, I cozied up in the den with my coffee and watched the Today Show for that purpose. As I thought about the new year being 2015, I started thinking about how my 1995 baby will be turning 20 this year! So on New Year's Eve of 1994, I was in my first trimester of pregnancy!

As in every year, 2015 will bring change to my life. Pretty soon, part of our family will be moving temporarily to another state and then to another country for three years. I can't write about that in too much detail, but please be in prayer for all of us as J, R, E and ML make a huge transition, and for my mom, Daniel and I as we get used to not having them close by.

During my quiet time this morning, as I contemplated the new year and the knowns and unknowns, I made a conscious choice to once again put my trust in the Lord and try not to lean on my own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). That led me to think about resting in Jesus as I start this new year. There is an old hymn that was given a new tune a few years ago, called "Jesus, I Am Resting, Resting."

May the lyrics bring you hope and comfort as you start the new year.

Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.

Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.

Refrain
Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.

O, how great Thy loving kindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea!
O, how marvelous Thy goodness,
Lavished all on me!

Yes, I rest in Thee, Belovèd,
Know what wealth of grace is Thine,
Know Thy certainty of promise,
And have made it mine.

Refrain

Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart;
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies its every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings:
Thine is love indeed!

Refrain

Ever lift Thy face upon me
As I work and wait for Thee;
Resting ’neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus,
Earth’s dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father’s glory,
Sunshine of my Father’s face,
Keep me ever trusting, resting,
Fill me with Thy grace.
